Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have caught a suspected collaborator of ISWAP and Boko Haram. This person tried to trick members of the Hybrid Forces into a terrorist trap in Gwoza, Borno State.
An operational report shared with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday said the suspect was arrested on Friday at the Government Secondary School in the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Gwoza Town.
The report mentioned that the suspect was allegedly working with terrorists near the Mandara Mountains. Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect aimed to convince hybrid forces members to leave and join their old friends in terrorist camps.
The report said the plan was to lead the personnel into an ambush where they would be killed and their weapons taken. The suspect had earlier talked to a Boko Haram commander in the mountainous area before getting caught.
Troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza are keeping the suspect while further investigations take place. Military authorities said this arrest highlights ongoing efforts by troops to break down terrorist support networks and stop infiltration of local security in the North-East.
