Spain's coach Luis de la Fuente, who led the team to win the World Cup, has a new contract that will keep him until 2032. This news was shared by the Spanish football federation on Monday.
The RFEF said, “Luis de la Fuente will extend his contract through the next two European Championships, in 2028 and 2032, as well as the 2030 World Cup.”
Luis de la Fuente is 65 years old. He became the coach of the national team in 2022 after taking over from Luis Enrique. Since then, he has guided Spain to win the World Cup, the Euro 2024, and the 2023 UEFA Nations League title.
Before his senior role, De la Fuente worked with Spain's youth teams for ten years.
Rafael Louzan, the chair of the Spanish FA’s board of directors, said, “We’re talking about the most successful head coach in the history of the national team, and after 14 years with us, this is something Luis de la Fuente deserves, a long-term future at the RFEF.”
Spain will play against England on September 26. This will be their first match since winning the World Cup in July. Three days later, they will host Croatia in Seville to kick off their Nations League campaign.
After that, they will return home to face the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3. They will finish this international window by traveling to Croatia on October 6.
