Sporting Supreme FC has received a N40m cash prize after winning the second edition of the Nigeria Youth League Cup. They celebrated a great weekend with both a trophy and a big cash reward following their 2-0 win over Grassrunners FC in the final at Eket Township Stadium, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The Nigeria Youth League kept its promise to reward the champions, showing how much the competition is growing. The prize was presented to the Abuja-based academy after their impressive victory.
Adeleke Abdulmuiz was the star of the final. His two goals in the second half secured the win. He broke the tie in the 59th minute and scored again in the 85th minute, earning him the Man-of-the-Match award.
Sporting Supreme went into the final as underdogs against Grassrunners FC. Grassrunners had a perfect record in the group stage, winning against teams like Darazo FC, Sunshine Stars, and Right2Win.
Coach Usman Bello and his assistant Eze Jude set up a strong defensive strategy that frustrated Grassrunners from the start. The first half was tense and tactical as both teams showed their skills. Grassrunners tried to attack quickly, while Sporting Supreme, known for their slogan "Top Quality," kept their formation and looked for openings in the other teamβs defense.
Despite opportunities for both sides, neither team scored before halftime. The game changed in the 59th minute when a quick counter-attack broke through Grassrunners' defense. Abdulmuiz kept calm and scored from close range, leading to celebrations on the Sporting Supreme bench.
After conceding a goal, Grassrunners pushed more players forward to look for an equalizer. But Sporting Supreme handled the pressure well. They struck again in the 85th minute thanks to Abdulmuiz, whose second goal sealed the championship and the N40 million prize that came soon after.
