The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Ghana’s Black Queens on Saturday in Casablanca, Morocco. This match is part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The friendly will take place at 16:00 at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli. It gives both teams a chance to sharpen their skills ahead of the upcoming tournament, starting on Sunday.
Nigeria is the most successful women’s team in Africa, with 10 WAFCON titles. They began their camp in Casablanca on Monday to prepare for their first match in Group C against Malawi in Rabat on Tuesday, July 28.
By Tuesday afternoon, 10 players had arrived at the team’s hotel, the Marriott in Casablanca. Midfielder Toni Payne is expected to join the group on Wednesday. She recently moved to Inter Milan Women from Everton.
The Super Falcons held their first training session on Tuesday under Head Coach Justine Madugu at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli.
Some of the early arrivals include captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Fatima Oloko, defenders Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Ogbonna, Shukurat Oladipo and Rofiat Imuran, midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini, and forward Asisat Oshoala.
This match brings back a historic rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. Ghana was the runner-up when Nigeria hosted and won the first African Women’s Championship in 1998. Matches between these two teams have always been exciting over the years.
Even though this game is just a warm-up, both teams will want to build confidence before the tournament begins.
After this friendly, the Super Falcons will focus on Group C. They will play Malawi on July 28, Zambia on August 1, and Egypt on August 5.
This 16-team tournament will also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically, and the fifth-placed team will move on to the intercontinental play-off tournament.
