Three members of the House of Representatives changed parties on Wednesday. They left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This adds to the ongoing political shifts in the National Assembly as the 2027 general elections approach.
The Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the defection notices during the plenary session.
The lawmakers who left the APC are Rabilu Bala from Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, who joined the PRP; Abubakar Zango from Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency in Adamawa State, who moved to the ADC; and Abdullahi El-Rasheed from Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in Gombe State, who also switched to the ADC.
These departures add to a growing number of party changes among lawmakers. Many politicians are reshaping their alliances as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
This latest round of defections comes just a day after another set of party switches. Those involved included MPs from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), APC, and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
