President Tinubu will be back in Nigeria this weekend after extending his working vacation by a few days.
He left Nigeria on 30 August to start his vacation in London. After a week there, he moved to Paris, France. In Paris, he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Mr Vincent Bollore. Mr Bollore's media group includes Canal+, Multichoice, and Universal Music Group.
During his vacation, President Tinubu has stayed in touch with Nigeria. He has been directing national matters, like ordering an independent panel to investigate the death of 37 illegal miners in Minna. This followed their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other actions.
While he is away, President Tinubu has asked Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at some official events. Mr Shettima left Abuja on 20 September to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has also been representing the president at various events and will continue to do so.
On the political side, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Abubakar Yari, has been talking with important traditional rulers across the country.
The presidency has called out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a US-based lobbying firm led by an ex-convict. They made unfounded claims about President Tinubu’s absence at the UN General Assembly, which the presidency described as irresponsible.
Vice President Shettima, who is at the global conference, will deliver Nigeria’s national statement.
