Plateau State governor announces night curfew in three LGAs due to violence

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced a night curfew in three local government areas due to recent killings and rising security issues.

The local government areas affected are Barkin-Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu.

The curfew was shared in a press release on Monday by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joyce Ramnap.

The statement said, “The Plateau State Government has declared an immediate, dusk-to-dawn curfew across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas to maintain public order and curb emerging security threats in the region.”

The curfew starts today, Monday, September 21, 2026. Movement is restricted from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM until further notice.

The government explained that this decision was made by the “Time is Now” administration to help security agencies restore peace in the affected areas.

“The ‘Time is Now’ Administration led by His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq, has taken the measure to allow law enforcement agencies to stabilize the area, protect lives, and prevent any breakdown of law and order within local communities,” the statement added.

Residents of the three LGAs are urged to follow the directive for their own safety.

“Therefore, all residents of affected Local Government Areas are expected to fully comply with the government’s directive for their own safety. Citizens are advised to plan their daily commercial, agricultural, and personal activities strictly around the restriction hours to avoid unnecessary hardship or friction during the quiet hours,” the release noted.

The statement also mentioned that security forces have been instructed to enforce the curfew and a ban on motorcycles in the affected areas.

“So far, security operatives have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew and the ban on use of motorcycles with immediate effect throughout the affected jurisdiction. While reassuring law-abiding citizens that security personnel will operate with professionalism,” the commissioner said.

The curfew will remain in place until further notice, depending on improvements in security in the three local government areas.
