Nigeria’s record holder, Tobi Amusan, added another achievement to her career on Saturday. She set a new meet record in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan.

Amusan ran a fantastic race, finishing in 12.72 seconds. She faced a slight headwind of -0.3m/s but still finished well ahead of her competitors.

Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang took second place with a time of 13.17 seconds. Amusan showed her strength with another great performance.

Though her time was not her best this season, winning was enough to break the previous meet record. This victory is part of her amazing run that has seen her win titles and set records around the world.

This latest win comes just weeks after Amusan claimed her first Diamond League victory of the 2026 season in Rabat, Morocco.

In Rabat, the 29-year-old finished in 12.28 seconds, matching her season’s best and breaking her own meeting record of 12.45 seconds from the previous year.

That race was a big moment for her, especially after starting the Diamond League season with good results in China. Amusan finished third in Shanghai with a time of 12.41 seconds, then improved to 12.28 seconds for a second-place finish in Xiamen, where she only lost to American star Masai Russell.

Her 12.28-second run is one of the fastest times in the world this year. It also ranks among the best of her impressive career.

The former world champion has been gaining momentum this season. Before her Diamond League campaign, she won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Championships in Accra. This win helped Nigeria earn its first gold medal of the event.

Since her historic world title and record of 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Amusan has been one of the most reliable athletes in women’s hurdling.

The new meet record in New Taipei may not be her fastest time, but it shows her consistency and ability to win no matter where she competes.
