Tobi Amusan Wins Bronze in 100m Hurdles at Commonwealth Games

World record holder Tobi Amusan on Thursday won bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Amusan was expected to win, but she finished the race in 12.60 seconds, placing third. The gold medal went to Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas, who finished in 12.33 seconds. Jamaica’s Megan Tapper took silver with a time of 12.41 seconds.

Though Amusan aimed to defend her Commonwealth title, the bronze medal still adds to Team Nigeria’s growing collection at the Games.

This result came just hours after Amusan showed her strength in the heats, finishing in 12.19 seconds with a helpful tailwind of +3.8 m/s. Though this performance could not be counted as a record, it was the fastest time ever recorded in a Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles race.

The final race was much tougher, with Charlton delivering a championship-winning performance and Tapper finishing ahead of Amusan.

Amusan has had many podium finishes throughout her career. The 2022 world champion and world record holder is one of Nigeria’s top athletes. She has won medals at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, African Championships, African Games, and Diamond League events.

Her latest medal follows impressive performances from other Nigerian athletes. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won gold in the men’s shot put. Goodness Nwachukwu broke her own world record to win gold in discus. Kayinsola Ajayi also made history, winning bronze in the men’s 100m, the first for Nigeria in 20 years.
