Nigerian stars Miracle Ezechukwu and Samson Nathaniel will lead over 850 athletes at the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet in Lagos on Saturday, November 7.

The event will hold at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, kicking off at 8 am. Maxwell Kumoye, who is the Chairman of the Media Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, signed the statement.

This meet will bring together both seasoned athletes and new talents as Athletic Heat celebrates ten years of supporting athletics in Nigeria.

Ezechukwu, a top sprint talent in Nigeria, is set to compete in the women’s 100m. She bagged three gold medals at the African U-18 and U-20 Championships in Abeokuta in 2025.

This year, she has achieved personal bests of 11.15 seconds in the 100m and 22.77 seconds in the 200m. At the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, she finished fourth in the 100m final and also helped Nigeria win the 4x100m relay in a championship-record time of 42.94 seconds.

Nathaniel is expected to run in the men’s 400m. He has represented Nigeria in the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships. He won gold in the 4x400m relay at the 2023 African Games in Accra and at the 2026 World Athletics Championships. His personal best is 45.23 seconds, and he recorded 45.89 seconds at the Addis Ababa Athletics Meet this year.

In the field events, javelin thrower Adams Samuel Kure will be a key athlete to watch. He won bronze at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2025, with a throw of 76.01m, finishing behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Muhammad Yasir.

The organisers have finished seeding the events and giving out bib numbers. Athletes can check their schedules on the Roster Athletics app.

The senior men’s 100m has attracted 320 entries, with the top 32 by ranking moving on to four finals. For the women’s 100m, the top 24 will qualify for the final.

The 400m and 800m events are seeded based on season-best times. Hurdles finals will have a limit of six athletes due to equipment constraints, and the long jump will consist of two flights.

Under-age athletes in the throwing events will have their results counted but will not qualify for prizes. Athletes who cannot make it to the event were asked to inform the organisers by Tuesday, November 3, to avoid getting a Did Not Start record.
