Super Eagles goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal has become a hot property in African football after his contract with Shooting Stars ended. Clubs from Angola, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria are all eager to sign him, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Footy-Africa reports that Angolan champions Petro de Luanda and Sierra Leonean club FC Kallon see Lawal as a key target. NPFL champions Rangers International and Plateau United are also keeping an eye on him in case he wants to stay in Nigeria.
Lawal’s availability comes after a great season with Shooting Stars. His solid performances helped the Ibadan-based team finish third in the Nigeria Premier Football League. This finish also earned them a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The club wants to keep him and has started talks for a contract extension. But these negotiations have not reached an agreement, leaving the goalkeeper to consider his next move.
Joining Petro de Luanda would be a big step in Lawal’s career. It would give him a chance to play in continental competitions with one of Africa’s well-funded clubs.
FC Kallon, owned by former Inter Milan and Monaco star Mohamed Kallon, offers an interesting option in Sierra Leone. This ambitious club is closely watching the goalkeeper’s situation.
Lawal's value has gone up since he played for Nigeria in the last Africa Nations Championship. He now has a strong position in transfer talks that could shape his career as he enters his prime years.
