Top Player Sinner Withdraws from US Open Due to Injury

World number one Jannik Sinner announced on Friday that he will not play in the US Open. This is the last Grand Slam of the year, and he is out because of a right knee injury.

"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year," the Italian star said in a statement.

Sinner added, "We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue."

The five-time Grand Slam winner has not played since he won Wimbledon on July 12. He also pulled out of warm-up tournaments in Cincinnati and Montreal before the US Open.

"I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart," said the 24-year-old. He won the US Open in 2024 but lost in last year’s final to Carlos Alcaraz.

"I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there."

Sinner will stay in Europe to continue his recovery. He hopes to be ready for the Asian swing and the tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.

This year, Sinner has had a strong season with 44 wins and only three losses. He has also won six titles, including Wimbledon.

But things did not go as planned at the French Open. He entered as a top favourite but exited in the second round after struggling in the heat.
