Turkish Super Lig team, Trabzonspor, has reported Saudi Pro League club, Al-Ahli, to FIFA. They are upset about how Al-Ahli went after Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu. Trabzonspor claims Al-Ahli contacted the player without their permission, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Onuachu was Trabzonspor’s top player last season. He scored 26 goals and made two assists in 26 matches across all competitions. His great form helped the Black Sea Storm finish in the top three of the Turkish league and win the Turkish Cup. He also earned the league’s top-scorer title.
His impressive performances have drawn attention from clubs in Europe and beyond. Al-Ahli is said to be the most eager club, willing to increase his current salary four times to bring him on board.
But Trabzonspor is not happy with how Al-Ahli is going about this. Reports from Puskas Sports say the Turkish club claims that Al-Ahli spoke to Onuachu directly to talk about a possible offer. This is against the rules since the striker has two years left on his contract. FIFA rules say a club can only negotiate with a player in the last six months of his deal.
Trabzonspor is open to selling Onuachu, but they want between €10m and €15m for him. The striker must also formally ask for the transfer, which he has not done yet.
If FIFA decides against Al-Ahli, the Saudi club may face a fine. Meanwhile, Onuachu’s future will likely continue to attract interest as the transfer window moves forward.
