Traditional leader gives N7.7m to families returning from South Africa

The Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Asadu, has given N100,000 each to 77 families from Enugu who returned from South Africa. This totals N7.7 million.

Olangwa Ezekwu, the Special Adviser to Governor Peter Mbah on Diaspora Matters, shared this news on Sunday in Enugu.

Mrs Ezekwu said the traditional ruler presented the money to the returnees’ representatives at his palace in Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom.

She mentioned that Mr Asadu praised Governor Mbah’s efforts and said his donation was meant to support what the state government has already done.

"The paramount ruler encouraged the returnees to stay hopeful and strong. He reminded them to take the chance to rebuild their lives in Enugu," she said.

In her response on behalf of the Enugu State Government, the special adviser thanked Mr Asadu for his support for the returnees. She highlighted how it adds to the governor’s efforts.

"Coming home under circumstances you did not choose carries its own pain. Some of you left behind businesses, possessions, and years of hard work.

"Governor Peter Mbah has shown that your welfare matters by giving one million to each of the 77 families. We are glad you are back safely, and we will keep supporting you as you rebuild your lives," she added.

She called the traditional ruler’s N7.7 million donation an important sign of community support and responsibility.

Mrs Ezekwu also urged individuals, businesses, faith groups, and other kind-hearted people to help the returnees as they start to rebuild their lives.
