SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc has named Michael Chukwu as an Independent Non-Executive Director. TAC Professional Services is now the company’s external auditor.
The insurance company shared this news in two separate notices signed by its secretary, Taiwo Kuku. These were filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Monday.
Mr Chukwu’s appointment started in September 2026, according to the company.
SUNU Assurances described him as a skilled financial executive and chartered accountant. He has over 40 years of experience in banking, taxation, corporate governance, and investment management.
Mr Chukwu is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Assetswise Capital Ltd. He has been leading private equity investments there since 2007.
His public service includes being the Executive Chairman of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Board from 2019 to 2020. He restructured operations, automated processes, and doubled the state’s internally generated revenue in just one year.
Before this, Mr Chukwu was the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Bank Plc from 2005 to 2007. There, he led the merger of six banks to form the new institution.
He was also MD/CEO of Guardian Express Bank from 2001 to 2005. He held senior roles at ACB International Bank, First Atlantic Bank, UBA, FCMB, Citizens International Bank, Fidelity Bank, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Mr Chukwu has a B.Sc. in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a fellow of several professional institutes, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
He also has board experience in financial services, research, and technology sectors. He has served as chairman or director at Eartholeum Networks Ltd, ENL-NOVA Ltd, Cowry Asset Management Ltd, and the National Root Crops Research Institute.
Meanwhile, SUNU Assurances has appointed TAC Professional Services as its new external auditor. This comes after SIAO Partners retired after eight years of service.
The company mentioned that SIAO Partners had completed the maximum eight-year term set by the National Insurance Commission’s Corporate Governance Guidelines 2021. They retired after finishing the audit for the 2025 financial year.
TAC Professional Services’ appointment was approved by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting on 21 August.
The insurance company said the new auditor has experience in several sectors. These include insurance, financial services, oil and gas, power, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications, aviation, and media.
TAC Professional Services was established in 1999. They offer audit and assurance, tax advisory and compliance, financial and business advisory, forensic investigation, and accounting services.
TAC is also part of Integra International, which is a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms. The auditing firm and its partners are registered with and recognized by relevant professional and regulatory bodies. These include the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
