The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has confirmed that a commercial bus driver died in a serious accident. This incident happened today on Cele Expressway heading towards Oshodi.
Mr Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment of LASTMA, shared this information in a statement to reporters on Tuesday in Lagos.
Adebayo explained that the accident involved a commercial mini bus known as "Korope" and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with the registration number EPE 554 YC.
"Initial investigations by security personnel at the scene showed that the driver of the mini bus suffered severe injuries and died immediately due to the terrible impact of the crash."
LASTMA officials, who were monitoring traffic in the area, quickly organized emergency response efforts. They secured the accident scene, managed the traffic flow, and prevented further issues on the busy road.
He added that along with police officers from Cele-Ijesha Division, they recovered the body of the deceased driver and handed it over to his family members living nearby.
To restore order and ensure public safety, LASTMA workers cleared the wreckage and all vehicles involved in the accident from the expressway.
"The vehicles were later given to the Nigeria Police Force for a thorough investigation into what caused the crash. This will help determine who is responsible and if any legal actions are needed," he said.
Adebayo also mentioned that Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed his sincere condolences to the grieving family. He advised drivers, especially those in commercial transport, to be more careful on the roads.
He urged them to always follow traffic rules and develop a habit of safe driving every time.
