Two Nice Fans May Go to Jail for Attacking Moffi

French prosecutors want jail time for two OGC Nice fans accused of helping to attack Nigerian forward Terem Moffi and former Chelsea player Jérémie Boga in November 2025, according to L’Équipe and AFP.

After a 3-1 loss to Lorient, over 200 fans gathered outside Nice’s training ground and blocked the team’s bus. The two accused, who used to be part of the Populaire Sud fan group, reportedly got on the bus and told the players they could safely leave to talk to the crowd.

While most players got through without problems, Moffi and Boga faced insults, spitting, and rough treatment. Both players and the club later filed complaints.

Though neither accused is said to have attacked the players directly, prosecutor Damien Martinelli called the incident an “ambush.” He stated it would not have happened without their help.

Prosecutors asked for a two-year sentence, with one year in prison, for one of the fans. They also sought two years in prison and an immediate order for the second fan, along with canceling a previous suspended sentence.

The Nice criminal court will give its decision on September 11.

After the incident, Moffi left Nice on loan to Porto, where he helped the team win the Portuguese league title, scoring two goals in 15 matches.

Porto did not take up the option to buy the Nigerian for €8m. Reports suggest the club wanted to negotiate a lower price.

Currently, Nice has made it clear that Moffi will leave the club, even though he started pre-season training with them earlier this month.

Roger Ricort, Nice’s new sporting director, confirmed that Moffi is one of the players the club plans to sell before the new season.

“He is one of the players we want to leave. He will surely be transferred elsewhere,” Ricort said.

“We don’t necessarily respect the man, but we will respect the player. Right now, he knows he won’t play for Nice anymore.

“I believe that would show a lack of respect to our supporters, but while he is here, we will try to treat him and his agents properly. When he finds a club, we will shake hands and wish each other good luck.”
