US Continues Bombing Iran for 11 Nights in a Row

The US kept up its attacks on Iran on Tuesday night. This marks the 11th straight night of strikes.

CENTCOM announced the end of the latest round of attacks on X. They listed drone storage sites, aircraft hangars, and military logistics as key targets in the strike.

The goal is to "further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said. This came after the US and Israel attacked Iran without provocation in February, even though the Strait was open for shipping.

The Strait sits between Iran and Oman. Iran has threatened to close it, which is crucial since about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes through there. On Tuesday, two commercial ships trying to pass without Iranian permission were hit by projectiles, reportedly fired by Iran, and caught fire.

The war has cost the US around $37.5 billion. This is almost $8 billion more than the last estimate in May, War Secretary Peter Hegseth told lawmakers.

Mr Hegseth also asked Congress for $87 billion for the Pentagon. He explained to the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday that $67 billion of this would go to operations in the Middle East.

But the hearing faced ongoing disruptions from anti-war protesters. It ended in a shouting match between the defense secretary and a senator.

According to CENTCOM, Iran’s ongoing attacks on commercial ships in Hormuz made American military action necessary.

"Over the past three months, Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the international waterway vital for regional and global trade. The unwarranted attacks have endangered hundreds of innocent mariners and undermined freedom of navigation," they stated.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has warned of attacking an Iranian underground nuclear site in the Pickaxe Mountain area in southern Iran. This area is near the Natanz nuclear enrichment site. In response, Tehran has threatened to widen the war if the US follows through on its threat.

Iran had already retaliated to CENTCOM’s Tuesday night strikes by targeting US allies in the Middle East.

Gulf states that host US military bases, especially Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, have been caught in this cycle of strikes. Iran’s recent attacks focused on US facilities at Camp Doha in western Kuwait.

Al Jazeera reported, citing state media, that the Iranian military hit "ammunition depots" and "ground forces command logistics equipment" at the base in Kuwait. The country, facing daily Iranian strikes, has also started rationing electricity after Tehran damaged its power infrastructure.
