A US soldier has died in Iraq. This brings the total number of American soldiers killed in the conflict with Iran to 17.

The US Central Command, known as CENTCOM, shared the news on Sunday night. They said, “a U.S. service member in northern Iraq was killed in action July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.”

They also reported that “a second service member was wounded and continues to receive medical treatment for a minor injury.”

PREMIUM TIMES noted that this announcement came just a day after CENTCOM revealed that two American soldiers were killed during Iranian strikes on a US facility in Jordan. A third soldier was reported missing.

In the Sunday statement, CENTCOM hinted that they might have found the remains of the missing soldier. “Yesterday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the passing of two U.S. service members and the missing status of one in Jordan following an Iranian attack on July 17. After a thorough search, U.S. military personnel found unidentified remains at the location earlier today. An examination process to verify the remains is ongoing,” they stated.

On the same day, the US also conducted strikes on Iran. This marked the ninth night in a row of US airstrikes. In response, Iran launched strikes on US facilities in Kuwait.
