What Media Group has announced that its broadcast platform, What Network, will now cover the 2026 Commonwealth Games across Sub-Saharan Africa, except South Africa. This means live coverage will be available on What.tv through the web.

What Network is the official free-to-air broadcaster for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The group has also grown its commercial and content operations, focusing on sponsorship, live events, and original productions.

This latest move is set to greatly boost the platform's live sports reach across Africa. It shows the company's fast growth in the continent's media and sports scene.

ChiChi Nwoko, CEO of What Media Group, said, "We’re building something that didn’t exist before, a real pan-African media platform, and it’s growing fast." He added, "The Commonwealth Games expansion is proof of what’s possible when we invest in African audiences directly."

The company noted that this expansion is part of a larger strategy across its different business areas. What Media Group has several divisions, including What Network, Team 33 Production, Toptier Sports Management, Studio City, Art Direction House, Hatch Haven, TX3 Sports, and Mindshift Mode, its public relations and marketing wing. This gives the company full control over broadcasting, sports rights, sponsorship, and content production.

In addition to increasing its sports rights, What Network is also growing its original programming. This includes shows like Kids Say the Darndest Things and the upcoming Project Runway Africa. This is a pan-African fashion competition created in partnership with Take Two Media and licensed from Fremantle.
