Zaidu Sanusi Out for Two Months Due to Injury

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi will be out for about two months after doctors confirmed an adductor injury in his right leg. He got the injury during Porto’s 3-0 win over Académico de Viseu on Saturday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Tests done on Sunday showed the injury. A Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, said Sanusi is not expected back until after the next international break.

Sanusi had to leave the game in the 17th minute after the injury occurred while he was trying to play the ball. The 29-year-old received treatment but could not continue. Martim Fernandes came on to replace him.

Porto later confirmed that Sanusi was added to their medical report. He will have more tests to find out how serious the injury is.

After the match, Porto coach Francesco Farioli shared his worries about the injury. He said it looked serious and mentioned another player, Jan, who appeared to have twisted his knee.

“Zaidu’s looks like something very serious, and Jan seems to have twisted his knee. We’ll see,” Farioli said, as reported by OneFootball.

This injury is a big blow for Sanusi. He had played every minute of Porto’s league games before Saturday and is still a key part of Farioli’s plans, even though he is in the last year of his contract.

His two-month absence might also keep him out of Nigeria’s matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which start next month.

Meanwhile, Porto continued their winning streak in the league. They kept a perfect record with players Andre Silva, Gabri Veiga, and William Gomes scoring to make it four wins in a row.

With this victory, Porto stays at the top of the league table with 12 points from four matches. They are two points ahead of Sporting CP.
