The Bauchi State Police have arrested a 20-year-old man named Isiyaku Usman. He is accused of defiling a seven-year-old girl and stealing two mobile phones from her in Darazo Local Government Area.

SP Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Monday.

Habib said the suspect tricked the girl into an unfinished building. There, he took her phones before sexually assaulting her.

The incident took place on September 6, 2026. The girl's 37-year-old father, who lives in Kari village, Darazo, reported the case to the police.

The statement explained, "On the same date at about 0800hrs, the victim was on her way to a neighbouring house with two Android phones of the same make, Techno A31, when one Isiyaku Usman 'm', 20-years-old, of the same address, lured her into a nearby uncompleted building, robbed her of the phones and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her."

According to the PPRO, detectives quickly started an investigation after the complaint. They arrested the suspect while he still had the stolen phones.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical checks. The police also recorded their statements.

Habib mentioned that the suspect admitted to the crimes and remained in police custody at the time of the report.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act. He ordered that the case be moved to the Gender Laboratory at the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.

The PPRO added that the suspect would face charges in court once the investigation wraps up.

The CP emphasized the command’s strict stance against sexual and gender-based violence. He urged parents and guardians to watch over their children's safety and movements closely.

He assured the public that the police would make sure justice is served.
