Six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, has called on fans to support the Super Falcons as they try to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Oshoala scored in both matches as Nigeria beat Senegal in two international friendly games at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, held last Friday and Monday.
The Al Hilal striker scored a penalty in the first match, helping the Falcons win 2-1. She then added Nigeria’s third goal in Monday’s 3-0 win as the nine-time African champions finished with a 5-1 aggregate score.
As the championship approaches, the former Barcelona striker thinks the fans' support is key to the team’s success.
“Scoring goals always feels good. The fans should keep supporting the leagues, the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles. Thank you for the support so far,” she said after Monday’s victory.
The 31-year-old is set to go to Morocco for her sixth WAFCON tournament. She has won four of the last five editions she played in.
She won three straight titles with Nigeria in 2014, 2016 and 2018, before helping the Falcons secure a record-extending 10th continental title at the last edition in 2024.
