Kazuyoshi Miura has once again shown he still has it. At 59, he scored a goal for Fukushima United in their big 7-0 win against Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor’s Cup on Saturday. This goal is his first competitive one in almost four years.
According to BBC Sport on Sunday, Miura found the net in the 52nd minute. His last goal was in November 2022 for Suzuka PG, which is now called Atletico Suzuka, against FC Osaka.
This latest goal adds to an incredible career that has lasted for more than 40 years. Miura, known as "King Kazu" in Japan, is one of the country's most famous sports stars.
He played a key role in the early days of professional football in Japan and became a well-known face when the J League started in 1993. Miura began his career with Santos in Brazil back in 1986. Since then, he has played in many countries, including Italy, Croatia, and Australia.
Even though he is at an age when most players have retired, Miura is still playing professionally. His career is about to enter its 42nd season after his loan at Fukushima United from Yokohama FC was extended until June 2027.
Miura has been with Yokohama FC since 2005 but has not played for them since 2020. For Japan's national team, he scored 55 goals in 89 matches and remains one of the most celebrated footballers in the country.
He has said before that he wants to keep playing into his 60s, and this latest goal shows his love for the game is still strong.
