Abia State Government, along with the National Malaria Elimination Programme, will distribute 3.03 million insecticide-treated nets across the 17 local government areas in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, shared this news on Monday during a briefing after the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

Mr Kanu said the distribution, worth over ₦1 billion, is part of the government's efforts to cut down malaria-related illnesses and deaths.

He pointed out that Abia has not held a mass distribution of treated nets since 2010. This makes the upcoming event important for boosting malaria prevention in the state.

The commissioner called the distribution timely, saying it would help reduce the malaria burden and protect residents from infections that can be avoided.

He noted that the Ministry of Health is working with NMEP to carry out the treated nets campaign throughout the 17 local government areas in the state.
