Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has advised unmarried people not to let worries about sexual compatibility push them into having sex before marriage.
Olayode, who promotes sexual purity, said she often talks to people who fear marrying partners without knowing how their sexual relationship would be.
In a long social media post on Saturday, Olayode shared that people come to her with questions, doubts, and personal stories about sex, relationships, and Christian beliefs.
She admitted that some topics she discusses are not things she would usually bring up with her close friends or in her Christian community.
"Sometimes, people say things I wouldn’t ordinarily say or use words that aren’t even in my vocabulary. Not necessarily because they’re wrong for expressing themselves, but because these aren’t conversations I would typically have within my regular circle or with my close friends," she wrote.
One discussion focused on whether unmarried couples need to see each other naked or have sex before marriage to know if they are sexually compatible.
Some people worry about physical compatibility, sexual satisfaction, and the risk of finding problems after marriage.
Olayode addressed these concerns, saying that the size of a man’s penis does not define sexual satisfaction. She believes couples can learn about each other’s bodies and preferences after they marry.
"The size of a man’s penis does not determine sexual satisfaction," she stated.
She added, "Marriage is not a sexual examination you must pass before you can confidently say yes to someone."
The actress acknowledged that sexual intimacy matters in marriage, but she believes compatibility involves more than just physical traits.
"Sex is important in marriage. Sexual compatibility matters. But I believe we sometimes place so much pressure on knowing everything beforehand that we forget that intimacy is also something couples grow into," she wrote.
Olayode said couples can understand each other’s needs, share their preferences, and discover what works for them through patience and understanding.
She also encouraged couples to seek help from Christian sex counsellors and qualified sex therapists during marriage counselling and after they marry.
Olayode further explained that waiting until marriage to have sex does not mean couples will miss out on great sexual relationships after they wed.
"Purity is not a guarantee of a perfect marriage. Having sex before marriage doesn’t guarantee sexual satisfaction either," she said.
She explained that her push for purity comes from her Christian beliefs, not because she thinks abstaining will lead to a problem-free marriage.
"Purity is not a transaction where we abstain today in exchange for a perfect marriage tomorrow. We pursue purity because we love God, because we trust Him, and because it is the life He has called us to live," she wrote.
Olayode also criticized some Christians who pick and choose which biblical rules to follow based on what suits them.
She believes people can recognize different experiences without letting those experiences shape their faith.
"I am not judging anyone. I am not oblivious to the different experiences people have had. I simply believe that we can acknowledge people’s experiences without making those experiences the standard for our convictions," she added.
Reaffirming her stance, the actress declared, "And yes, SEX IS FOR MARRIAGE. I believe it, I talk about it, and I stand by it."
She also insisted that sexual purity is not old-fashioned or impossible but is open to everyone.
