Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is starting a new journey in Italy. Frosinone, a newly promoted Serie A club, has agreed to sign the centre-back, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Frosinone has finished negotiations for the 31-year-old player. Details of his contract are expected to be revealed soon.

Akpoguma is leaving Hoffenheim after spending over ten years with the German team. He joined Hoffenheim from Karlsruher in 2013. During his time there, he was loaned to Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before becoming a regular player in Hoffenheim’s main squad.

But under manager Christian Ilzer, Akpoguma lost his place in the team. He only played nine times in his last season before becoming a free agent when his contract ended.

Now, the Nigerian defender is heading to Serie A. He will reunite with Akor Adams, a fellow Nigerian who just made a record move to newly promoted Venezia. Both players aim to make their mark in Italy’s top league next season.

Akpoguma represented Germany at youth level before deciding to play for Nigeria. Since his debut in 2020, he has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles. His last game for the national team was in June 2023.

Joining Frosinone gives the experienced defender a chance to revive his career. He hopes to get back to regular first-team action as the club gets ready for its Serie A season.
