Brighton forward Femi Azeez will have a late fitness test before the Carabao Cup match against Manchester United on Wednesday. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler said the Nigerian is still in the running to make his debut for the Seagulls.
Azeez joined Brighton from Millwall on deadline day. The deal was worth over £15 million. He has not played for his new team yet because he got injured on the first day of the Championship season.
The 25-year-old played in Millwall’s 2-0 win over Bristol City but has been out since then. He missed Brighton’s last two matches against Leeds United and Coventry City.
Hurzeler mentioned that Azeez could be back for the game against United if he trains well without any issues. “Azeez needs to be assessed in training ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup game against Manchester United,” Hurzeler said before the match.
If Azeez returns, it would be a big boost for Brighton as they aim to move on to the next round of the competition. The Seagulls drew 1-1 with Leeds and then thrashed Coventry 5-0 last weekend. They will now face a United team they beat 2-1 in last season’s FA Cup.
Azeez had a strong 2025/26 season with Millwall. He scored 11 goals and made seven assists in all competitions. His great performances earned him a spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.
He is the second Nigerian player to join Brighton this summer. Zadok Yohanna was the first, arriving from Swedish club AIK earlier in the transfer window.
As he waits for his Brighton debut, Azeez hopes to show he is fit in training. He wants to make his first appearance for the club against United.
