The transfer drama involving Julián Álvarez has taken a new twist. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has again said his club wants the Atlético Madrid striker. But Atlético has firmly rejected this idea.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on X on Wednesday that Laporta confirmed Barcelona's strong desire to sign Álvarez this summer.

"We are still very interested in Julián Álvarez," Laporta said. He added that Barça hopes to have their offer accepted while showing "the utmost respect for Atlético de Madrid."

Laporta sent a clear message to Atlético.

"If they are willing to sell Julián Álvarez during this summer transfer window, we would be ready to buy him," Laporta stated. This is only if both clubs can agree on the offer Barcelona has already made.

Laporta also mentioned that he spoke directly with Atlético's chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín to confirm Barcelona's proposal.

"We have a great deal of respect for Atlético de Madrid and its directive. We have known each other for many years," Laporta explained.

He said Barcelona got hints that Atlético might consider selling Álvarez. This led Barcelona to keep their offer on the table.

"It’s clear that our offer remains valid until the end of the market," Laporta added.

But Atlético Madrid hit back with a statement, saying there is no chance of Álvarez joining Barcelona.

"The player is being victimized, but the only victim of the Julián case is us," Atlético said. They highlighted that this situation has already hurt them financially and socially.

"They have harmed us economically and socially," Atlético stated. Their strongest message was, "There is 0% chance of selling him to Barça."

Atlético also stressed that this issue is not just about money.

"This situation is not about money, it’s about dignity," the club declared.

They accused some parties of spreading false information and half-truths, arguing that Atlético is the one suffering from this controversy.

"The only one who pays for this is Atlético," the statement concluded.

The differing views leave the Álvarez transfer saga at a tough standstill. Barcelona insists their offer is still on the table and they want to negotiate. Meanwhile, Atlético is firmly stating they will not sell the Argentine forward to Barça, no matter what.
