Brighton Coach Excited About Azeez's Skills

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler has shared what he likes about Super Eagles winger Femi Azeez after the Nigerian joined the club this summer.

The 25-year-old signed with the Seagulls on deadline day for just over £15 million. He is now part of the growing number of Nigerian players in the English Premier League.

Unfortunately, Azeez could not play in Brighton's matches against Coventry City and Leeds as he is still recovering from an injury he got while at Millwall. This injury happened during Millwall's first league game of the season, a 2-0 victory over Bristol City.

“Femi is obviously carrying a slight injury at the moment. With Femi, we have to wait this weekend, and hopefully he will be available for the next game,” Hürzeler said before the match against Leeds United last weekend.

Azeez had a great 2025/26 season at Millwall. He scored 11 goals and made seven assists in all competitions as the team reached the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they lost to Hull City.

His strong performances earned him a spot in the PFA Championship Team of The Season before he moved to Brighton.

Even with questions about Azeez's fitness, Hürzeler has already mentioned what he finds impressive about the Nigerian winger.

“Femi’s a winger; he can score with the right and with the left foot. He has really good decision-making in the final third. He’s a hard worker. I’m really pleased with the transfer window. Of course, there have been a lot of changes.

“Now it’s about us integrating all the new players as quickly as possible and becoming a really strong unit, and that’s our responsibility now,” the Brighton coach added.

Azeez is now hoping to recover soon enough to make his Brighton debut when the Seagulls play newly promoted Coventry City in their next Premier League match on Sunday. He could face fellow Super Eagles stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka.
