Carrick stays calm after Man United loses 2-0 to Hull City

Michael Carrick said he would not blame his Manchester United players after their poor 2-0 loss to Hull City in their first Premier League match of the season.

Carrick’s team suffered from goals by Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy in the first half at MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Hull City, back in the Premier League for the first time since 2017, played well despite missing 10 players due to injury. They easily defeated a struggling United side.

This was a tough start for United, who are expected to challenge for the title after finishing third last season.

There was little sign that United could compete with champions Arsenal.

But Carrick remained calm. He wanted to avoid the emotional outburst that led to the sacking of his former boss, Ruben Amorim, last season.

“We came here to win so to not take anything away is hugely disappointing. It is not a nice feeling but it is not going to change our direction as a team or a club,” Carrick said.

“It can happen, we can be better. There are issues playing against different systems and we have to find answers to that.

“You have to carry on as normal. We just don’t all have to shout and scream and create some chaos. Calmness doesn’t mean there is not emotion.”
