Container truck crashes into broken LAWMA van in Lagos

A 20-foot container truck crashed into a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority truck at Apakun, heading towards Iyana-Isolo in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority shared this news on its official X account on Thursday. They also posted a video showing the accident scene.

LASTMA stated that their rescue team was sent to the location. They also activated a crane and a high-capacity tow truck to clear the vehicles and restore traffic.

The agency mentioned, “We recorded an overnight accident at Apakun heading towards Iyana-Isolo, involving a broken-down LAWMA truck and a 20-ft container truck that rammed into it.

“A crane and high-capacity tow truck have been activated.

“The LASTMA Rescue Team is currently at the scene, and the casualty recorded has been taken to the hospital.”

In the video shared by LASTMA, a victim was seen lying on the ground at the accident site.

However, PUNCH Online could not confirm the victim's identity, the seriousness of the injuries, or whether the person was dead or alive.

LASTMA did not share more details about the victim in their post. They did not mention the type or extent of the injuries.

The accident happened amid ongoing worries about the safety of heavy-duty vehicles, especially container trucks, on Lagos roads.

Truck breakdowns can cause major blocks and raise the risk of crashes, especially on busy roads.

Authorities have often reminded drivers and heavy-duty vehicle operators to follow road safety rules. They want to make sure broken-down vehicles are properly marked and removed from the roads quickly to avoid more accidents.
