Daniel Amokachi becomes brand ambassador for 22Bet in Africa

Former Super Eagles player Daniel Amokachi has been named the Pan-African brand ambassador for sports betting company 22Bet.

The announcement took place on Wednesday at the BON Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos. The company said this partnership will help promote African football culture, support grassroots communities, and encourage responsible sports engagement across Africa.

After signing the partnership deal, Amokachi called the appointment a privilege. He expressed gratitude for being chosen among many football legends in Africa.

“I am honoured to stand before you today. There are over a million legends out there who could easily be standing where I am today, so I give God the glory for this opportunity. Anybody could have been standing here today, and I’m truly honoured,” he said.

Amokachi shared that talks with 22Bet started during the Africa Cup of Nations. He accepted the offer because of the company's Pan-African approach.

“I have worked with agencies before. I was with a Turkish agency until 22Bet contacted me during AFCON. Whenever it has something to do with Nigeria or Africa, I always try to embrace it.

“A lot of offers came, but I turned them down because I was comfortable. What attracted me to this partnership is its Pan-African nature. It allows me to do more in giving back to the African continent.”

Amokachi also mentioned that the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility influenced his decision.

“One of the core reasons I accepted this contract is because of the CSR projects 22Bet is involved in. We have seen many companies enter Nigeria, make money, and leave without giving back. The more you make, the more you should invest in the communities and the people of the country,” he said.

At the unveiling, 22Bet Country Manager Fikayo Ogunfuye spoke about the partnership's shared vision to promote African football beyond just making money.

He described Amokachi as a football icon who continues to inspire many across the continent.

“A man who carried the hopes of a nation, competed at the highest level, and continued to inspire generations long after hanging up his boots. This partnership is not about short-term visibility; it is about purpose,” Mr Ogunfuye said.

He explained that the collaboration will have Amokachi working with 22Bet to support football culture, local communities, and responsible engagement across Africa.

“Football remains one of the strongest forces uniting our continent, from the streets of Lagos to communities across West, East, and Southern Africa. The game shapes identity, builds character, and creates opportunities.

“Through this partnership, we want to celebrate that culture, amplify authentic African football stories, and contribute meaningfully to the communities that keep the game alive,” he added.

Mr Ogunfuye also stated that 22Bet aims to ensure its support for football aligns with promoting positive values and responsible participation.

He revealed that in the coming months, the partnership will focus on celebrating African football heroes, supporting young players, and grassroots football communities. They will also use Amokachi’s platform to promote responsible participation in sports.

Known as “The Bull,” Amokachi had a successful playing career with Club Brugge, Everton, and Beşiktaş. He was part of Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team and the Dream Team that won Africa’s first Olympic football gold medal in the 1996 Atlanta Games. Since retiring, he has stayed active in football as a coach, administrator, and television pundit.
