Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has criticized Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s government in Delta State. He claims the administration has not turned the state’s huge public funds into real development. Omo-Agege says the state has little to show for over N3.15 trillion received in the past three years.

In an interview on ARISE News on Wednesday, Omo-Agege said Governor Oborevwori’s government has not used the available resources effectively. He stated, “Despite the receipt of over N3.15 trillion in three years, there’s nothing on the ground in Delta State other than three or four flyovers, as if flyovers are what governance is all about.”

Omo-Agege also claimed that around N750 billion of Delta State funds are sitting idle with the Central Bank of Nigeria. He accused the government of failing to use the money to solve urgent problems facing the people.

This criticism came as Omo-Agege officially announced his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election. This follows his switch from the ruling APC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

When asked who he would back for president in 2027, he said, “Of course, it’s Peter Obi of the NDC.” Omo-Agege emphasized that his support for Obi does not mean he disagrees with the economic changes made by President Bola Tinubu. He mentioned the removal of the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms as necessary.

He believes Nigerians would trust these policies more under Obi’s leadership. Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate, claimed the ruling party abandoned him and his supporters in Delta State after Governor Oborevwori and his associates joined the APC.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Oborevwori said Omo-Agege’s political issues come from his history of falling out with allies. He insists that Omo-Agege is no longer a significant player in Delta politics. Omo-Agege responded, saying, “I never left the APC. The APC left me and left my over 240,000 supporters in Delta State.”

He also reiterated his belief that he won the 2023 governorship election in Delta but was robbed of victory. Although he ruled out running for governor in 2027, he mentioned that the NDC has chosen a candidate who can address issues like insecurity, poor healthcare, failing schools, and economic struggles in the oil-rich state.

Neither Governor Oborevwori nor the Delta State Government has publicly addressed Omo-Agege’s claims.
