Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s government in Delta State has not turned the state’s large public funds into real development. He noted that the state has very little to show for the over N3.15 trillion it received in the last three years.

In an interview on ARISE News on Wednesday, Omo-Agege claimed that the Oborevwori administration has not made good use of the funds it has.

“Despite the receipt of over N3.15 trillion in three years, there’s nothing on the ground in Delta State other than three or four flyovers, as if flyovers are what governance is all about,” he said.

Omo-Agege also accused the government of keeping about N750 billion of Delta State funds idle in the Central Bank of Nigeria. He said the government lacks the ability to use these resources to solve urgent problems facing the people.

His comments came as Omo-Agege announced his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election after moving from the ruling APC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

When asked who he would support for president in 2027, he said, “Of course, it’s Peter Obi of the NDC.”

Omo-Agege stated that his support for Obi, who is the NDC presidential candidate, does not mean he disagrees with the economic changes brought by President Bola Tinubu. He mentioned the removal of the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms.

He believes these policies are necessary and that Obi supports them, but Nigerians would have more trust in them under Obi’s leadership.

The former APC governorship candidate said the ruling party left him and his followers in Delta State after Governor Oborevwori and his associates joined the APC.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Oborevwori claimed Omo-Agege’s political issues are due to a history of conflicts with allies. He insisted that Omo-Agege is no longer a significant player in Delta politics.

“I never left the APC. The APC left me and left my over 240,000 supporters in Delta State,” Omo-Agege stated.

He also repeated his claim that he won the 2023 governorship election in Delta but was robbed of victory.

Although he said he would not run for governor in 2027, Omo-Agege mentioned that the NDC has picked a candidate who can address issues like insecurity, poor healthcare, failing schools, and economic struggles in the oil-rich state.

So far, neither Governor Oborevwori nor the Delta State Government has responded to Omo-Agege’s claims.
