DP World is growing its trade and logistics work in Nigeria. Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group is set to buy a 43 per cent stake in DP World’s logistics business, just after the global ports operator signed deals for a $7 billion deep-sea port and special economic zone in Ogun State.
These moves show a big step forward for DP World’s interests in Nigeria. They are expanding from just ports into logistics, distribution, and supply-chain services.
According to UAC of Nigeria Plc, TGI's subsidiary, 22 Plus Invest Limited, will take over UAC’s full 43 per cent share in DP World Logistics Limited, which used to be MDS Logistics Limited. This deal still needs regulatory approval. DP World will keep the majority share while UAC will leave the business.
This deal is a mix of DP World’s global logistics skills and TGI’s strong knowledge of the Nigerian market, distribution networks, and operational know-how. DP World Logistics will keep offering road freight and contract logistics services all over Nigeria. They also plan to grow their services and look into new offerings, like fourth-party logistics (4PL) solutions. The business will use DP World’s international network to help Nigerian companies reach regional and global markets.
This partnership could also open doors for more growth across West Africa.
The logistics deal comes after the Ogun State Government and DP World MEA FZE signed agreements in Paris for developing the Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
These projects aim to boost maritime connections while linking port infrastructure with logistics, manufacturing, and access to regional markets.
UAC Group Managing Director, Fola Aiyesimoju, said they have worked closely with DP World’s management to help grow the logistics business. He called TGI a strong long-term partner for DP World, noting its deep market knowledge and experience in building businesses in Nigeria.
“We look forward to seeing the Company continue to grow and strengthen its contribution to Nigeria’s logistics sector,” Aiyesimoju said.
TGI Group Vice Chairman, Farouk Gumel, said the planned acquisition shows a shared goal with DP World to transform trade and logistics in Africa.
“By combining DP World’s global expertise with TGI Group’s deep market knowledge and extensive distribution network, we are building strong supply chains that will allow growth, improve regional connections, and support economic prosperity for generations,” Gumel said.
DP World Africa Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mohammed Akoojee, called Nigeria “one of Africa’s most important economies and a critical market for the future of trade on the continent.”
Akoojee said this partnership will strengthen supply chains, improve the movement of goods, and create new growth opportunities in Nigeria and beyond.
TGI has been in Nigeria and the wider West African region for over 40 years. They work in areas like agriculture, food processing, FMCG manufacturing, distribution, chemicals, poultry, real estate, and financial services. They also have operations in India and the UAE and employ over 25,000 people.
DP World operates in six continents and has more than 125,000 staff. Their business covers ports and terminals, marine services, logistics, and technology.
The TGI deal and future Ogun investments will expand DP World’s operations in Nigeria across maritime infrastructure, logistics, distribution, and supply-chain connectivity.
