EFCC tells local council heads to use funds for Nigerians' benefit

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on local government chairpersons to make sure that more money going to councils leads to better services for the people.

Mr Olukoyede made this statement on Tuesday in Abuja during the first Annual National Conference of Local Government Council Chairmen and Traditional Rulers Councils.

He was represented by the commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren. The EFCC chairman emphasized that local government funds should focus on meeting the needs of communities.

According to a statement from EFCC, he pointed out that the commission is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability at the local level.

“The EFCC is equally committed to transparency and accountability at the sub-national level and would want to see the improved resources flow to the third tier of government translate into improvement in the quality of lives of the grassroots population,” he said.

This call comes as people raise concerns about how local governments manage public funds and provide essential services.
