Landon Emenalo, the son of former Super Eagles defender and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has joined Scottish club Celtic on loan from Chelsea.
The 18-year-old can play in defence or midfield and will spend the season in Scotland. He hopes to gain important first-team experience.
Emenalo was part of Chelsea’s senior squad for their pre-season tour in Asia and Australia. He played for Xabi Alonso’s team in their win against A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers.
Chelsea says this loan move is a great chance for the young player to develop at the senior level.
“Landon will gain valuable top-flight experience in Scotland,” Chelsea said in a statement on Thursday. They also wished the academy graduate “good luck” at Celtic.
Emenalo joined Chelsea’s Academy when he was seven years old. He has moved up through the club’s youth teams over the years.
Last season, he was a regular starter for Chelsea Under-21s and helped them finish top of the Premier League 2 table.
The teenager also played a key role in Chelsea’s Under-18s success, helping them win the national championship after beating Manchester City in the play-off final at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will keep track of Emenalo’s development during his time at Celtic.
This loan deal gives Emenalo a chance to play regular senior football and grow as a player away from the Chelsea Academy.
