Ezechukwu aims for success at World U-20 Championships

Miracle Ezechukwu says running with top athletes this season has boosted her confidence as she prepares for the World U-20 Championships. She started her Commonwealth Games journey with a win in the women’s 100m heats in Glasgow, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Nigerian sprinter finished with a time of 11.32 seconds from lane eight. This win secured her a spot in the semi-finals along with her teammates Blessing Ogundiran and Rosemary Chukwuma.

For Ezechukwu, this victory marked a fantastic start to her first Commonwealth Games. She expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent Nigeria on this global stage.

“Being here, I would say it’s just God. I’m going to thank God for everything. Me being here, representing my country, my team and my family, I’m just happy to be here,” she said.

Ezechukwu felt confident before the race after checking the line-up. She mentioned that staying focused helped her deal with the tough weather conditions in Glasgow.

“When I saw the list, I was like, I’m good to go. It was just about running my race. The cold is too much, but I focused and forgot about everything. No matter what, we still run,” Ezechukwu added.

Looking ahead, Ezechukwu is already thinking of the World U-20 Championships, which she sees as a major goal this season.

“I think I’m good to go. It’s just going now, rest, focus and talk to God. My biggest target this year was this Commonwealth and World Junior. When I’m done here, I’m moving to World Junior, and I believe and trust that I’m going to win something over there,” she said.

Ezechukwu's confidence comes after a busy season where she competed at the World Relays and African Senior Championships. Racing against top stars helped her gain important experience.

“It has been really wonderful because going out there, running with pro and elite people, has made me experience and have confidence in myself that anything that comes, I will take no matter what,” she said.

After a strong start at the Commonwealth Games, Ezechukwu plans to keep her momentum going in Glasgow. She hopes to achieve more at the World U-20 Championships and add another success to her growing career.
