Nigeria’s Falconets kicked off their final training for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 win over Poland on Friday. The friendly took place at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland.
Mary Mamudu scored the only goal of the match, helping the Falconets secure the win against the Poland U-20 women’s team.
The official Super Falcons X account announced the result after the game. They reported that Mamudu scored in the first half to give Nigeria the win.
Mamudu netted the goal in first-half stoppage time, hitting the back of the net in the 45th minute plus one. This gave Nigeria a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, neither team managed to score again. Nigeria held on to their lead, claiming victory in their first of two warm-up matches in Poland.
This win is part of the Falconets’ preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Poland from August 31 to September 22.
The Nigeria Football Federation had earlier confirmed that the team would play Poland on August 28. They will also face South Korea on September 1 as part of their final training before the tournament.
The Falconets are in Group F along with Spain, China PR, and New Caledonia.
Nigeria hopes to improve on their previous performances at this tournament. They finished as runners-up in 2010 and 2014.
The Falconets have never won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, even though they have been a strong team over the years.
Friday’s win gives them a good start as they prepare for a historic title.
Next, the team will take on South Korea in their second friendly on September 1.
