Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, has urged Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, to give their best against Korea Republic in a friendly today. This match comes after their recent victory over Poland, which helped build their winning spirit.
The Falconets won 1-0 against Poland at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg on August 28. Mary Mamudu scored the only goal in first-half stoppage time. This win boosted Coach Moses Aduku’s team as they prepare for the World Cup.
The team held on to their slim lead after halftime, securing their victory over the tournament hosts.
Now, the Falconets will play Korea Republic in their last warm-up match at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium. After this, they will focus on the World Cup.
Ikpeme praised the players for their effort against Poland and encouraged them to keep that momentum.
“You did very well in your friendly match against the host nation, by holding your own and eventually emerging victorious. The NFF and the entire Nigerian nation are proud of you,” he said.
“The victory over Poland has given you a winning mentality. Another victory against Korea Republic today will maintain that mindset. This will help you face the challenges in the group phase of the World Cup with confidence. I urge you to aim for a win against the Koreans.”
Nigeria has been runners-up twice at the U-20 Women’s World Cup. They are in Group F with Spain, China PR, and New Caledonia.
The Falconets will start their campaign against Spain on Monday, September 7. They will then play China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will take place in Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026.
