Flamingos set sights on WAFU B title for World Cup preparation

U-17 women’s national team, Flamingos

Nigeria’s Flamingos will use the second WAFU B U-17 Girls Tournament in Ivory Coast to prepare for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Coach Hakeem Busari aims to win the tournament before heading to Morocco.

The Flamingos arrived in Ivory Coast on Monday for the tournament. They will now play against Niger Republic on Wednesday after Benin Republic’s U-17 team withdrew from the competition.

This change means Nigeria will not face Ghana’s Princesses in their first game. That much-anticipated match is now set for Saturday.

“This is the kind of tournament we want to win and build on it for the task ahead, which is the World Cup,” Busari said before the match against Niger Republic.

Busari picked 20 players for the tournament. This event is an important chance for Nigeria and Ghana, who are two of Africa’s four teams going to this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Kenya and Zambia are the other two teams representing Africa.

The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 8.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group B with North Korea, Puerto Rico, and Poland. Ghana is in Group C with Canada, Brazil, and Norway.
