Former West Brom Player Passes Away at 25

Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has passed away at just 25 years old. He collapsed during a pre-season friendly in Portugal.

On Saturday, Castro was playing for Portuguese club Real Sport Clube against Estrela da Amadora at the Estádio das Seixas. He collapsed in the first half of the match.

Medical staff quickly treated him before taking him to the hospital, where he later died.

The Lisbon Football Association confirmed Castro’s death in a statement. Real Sport Clube called him more than just a player, stating he was a key part of their family.

The match was stopped after this sad event.

West Brom expressed that they were "devastated" by the news.

The Championship club plans to honor Castro before their Sunday match against Burnley. There will be a moment of applause in the 25th minute, and players will wear black armbands.

Castro joined West Brom in 2021 after a successful trial. He made his first-team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. He also played in a Championship match against Swansea City.

He later went on loan to clubs like Burton Albion, Notts County, and Gateshead. In 2023, he joined York City. He also played for several other English clubs before going back to Portugal.

Just six days before his death, Castro celebrated his 25th birthday.

His former clubs and teammates have shared their condolences. Estrela da Amadora offered their deepest sympathies to Castro’s family, friends, and everyone at Real Sport Clube.

The official cause of death has not been disclosed.
