Nigerian midfielder Francis Onyeka is close to joining newly promoted Bundesliga team SV Elversberg. The German club wants to strengthen their attack as they prepare for life in the top league, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg shared that talks between Elversberg and Bayer Leverkusen, who own Onyeka’s rights, are almost done. Everyone involved is hopeful that they will reach an agreement soon.
The 19-year-old player spent last season on loan at VfL Bochum in Bundesliga 2. He had a great season, impressing many clubs across Germany.
Onyeka scored eight goals and had one assist in 30 league games. He proved to be one of the most exciting young players in the league.
Elversberg, who made history by getting promoted to the Bundesliga this season, see Onyeka as a great fit for their attack. They believe he will bring more quality as they get ready for a tough first season in Germany’s top division.
For Onyeka, this move is a big step in his career. It will be his first chance to play in the Bundesliga after a successful season in the second league.
