Fulham has started talks with Álvaro Arbeloa as they look for a new manager after Marco Silva's exit. Silva left Craven Cottage after five years to join Benfica. His time at Fulham was successful, helping them become a steady Premier League team and finishing 11th last season.
Reports from BBC Sport on Saturday say that Arbeloa, aged 43, is a strong candidate for the job. But sources say the talks are still early and not advanced yet.
Arbeloa is well-liked in Fulham’s recruitment setup because of his coaching experience at Real Madrid. He moved up through the youth ranks and took on a senior interim role last season.
At Santiago Bernabéu, Arbeloa worked at different coaching levels. He briefly led the first team as interim coach while being part of the youth team structure.
His promotion happened during a time of change at Real Madrid, with senior coaches like José Mourinho and Xabi Alonso also facing changes in their careers across Europe.
Arbeloa has played in the Premier League for Liverpool F.C. and West Ham United F.C. This experience could help him if Fulham chooses someone who knows English football well.
Fulham is also looking at other options. They considered Kieran McKenna, who used to manage Ipswich Town, but contract issues made it difficult for him. McKenna has since decided to take a break from managing.
For now, Arbeloa is one of several names being looked at as Fulham plans their next move. They finished mid-table last season and want to keep improving in the Premier League.
