Hannover 96 is thinking about signing Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface. The 2. Bundesliga team wants to boost their attack before the transfer window closes, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
German news outlet Neupresse says Boniface is one of several forwards on Hannover’s radar. They might give the Nigerian another chance to get his career back on track in German football.
The 25-year-old returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer after a tough loan at Werder Bremen. He didn't score in 11 matches during the 2025/26 season.
His time at Werder came after a series of injuries at Leverkusen. His progress was also slowed down by fitness issues. Boniface is still under contract with the Bundesliga club until June 2029.
Despite this, the striker has shown good form during pre-season. He seems to have improved his standing at Leverkusen. He scored two goals in four minutes during a 7-0 win against Sportfreunde Baumberg in July. He also played a big part in their 3-1 win over Kickers Offenbach.
Boniface then came off the bench against Newcastle United on August 15. He scored the winner in the 82nd minute, beating his defender and finishing calmly to secure a 2-1 victory.
These performances come as Boniface aims for a strong 2026/27 season. Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes mentioned that the Nigerian is still working on his fitness for a full 90 minutes, but his physical condition has improved.
Boniface has set a goal of scoring at least 20 times this season. However, there is strong competition at Leverkusen for attacking positions. Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane are among those fighting for spots.
A move to Hannover might depend on what Leverkusen plans for Boniface. His salary and long-term deal could make a permanent transfer hard. A loan deal might be a more realistic option for everyone involved.
