Jorge Jesus has agreed to be the new head coach of Portugal, ESPN reported on Thursday.
The 71-year-old manager from Portugal will take over from Roberto Martínez. Martínez's contract ended after Portugal lost in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
ESPN said on Thursday, citing sources, that Jesus will sign a four-year deal with the Portuguese Football Federation. This means he will lead the team until June 2030.
The announcement is expected later on Thursday. This will be the first time Jesus has managed a national team.
Portugal acted fast to find a new coach after a disappointing World Cup campaign. They were knocked out with a 1-0 loss to Spain in the Round of 16.
Jesus is available after he led Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr to the league title. While there, he worked with Portuguese stars Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix.
The experienced coach has also managed several clubs. These include Benfica, Sporting CP, Flamengo, and Fenerbahçe. He has won league titles in Portugal, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
