Super Falcons striker Joy Omewa has called scoring her first goals for Nigeria “a dream come true.” She netted two goals in the team’s 3-0 win over Senegal in an international friendly in Ikenne on Monday.
Omewa was the star of the match as Nigeria put on a strong second-half performance against the Teranga Lionesses at the Remo Stars Stadium. This win boosts the team's confidence ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
After the match, Omewa, who plays for Nottingham Forest Women’s team, shared her joy on social media.
“Super happy with the win today, an amazing performance from the girls in front of our home fans in Ikenne 🇳🇬,” she posted on Facebook.
“Grateful to score my first two goals for Nigeria. A dream come true for me and my family.
“Big thanks to my coaches, teammates, and everyone supporting me. More to come as we push toward WAFCON 2026.”
The match started slowly, with no goals in the first half. But just three minutes into the second half, Omewa scored the opening goal with a header from a great cross by Shukurat Oladipo.
She added another goal in the 55th minute, showing strength and skill to break through the Senegalese defense before finishing perfectly for her second goal.
With her two goals, the Super Falcons took control of the game. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade later assisted substitute Asisat Oshoala, who scored Nigeria’s third goal in the 66th minute.
This victory showcased an excellent performance by the Super Falcons, especially in the second half, as they created many chances before the break.
Omewa’s standout performance also showed the increasing attacking options for head coach Justine Madugu. The team is getting ready for WAFCON 2026 in Morocco.
For Omewa, this match was particularly special. It was her first time scoring for Nigeria, marking the achievement of a long-held dream on the international scene.
