Joy Omewa is excited after scoring her first goals for the Super Falcons. This happened during Nigeria’s 3-0 win against Senegal in an international friendly match in Ikenne on Monday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The striker netted two goals in the second half. This helped the 10-time African champions complete a double victory over the Teranga Lionesses, after winning 2-1 in the first match on Friday.
After her big day, Omewa shared her feelings about the experience. She called it a dream come true for her and her family.
“Super happy with the win, an amazing performance from the girls in front of our home fans in Ikenne. Grateful to score my first two goals for Nigeria. A dream come true for me and my family. Big thanks to my coaches, teammates, and everyone supporting me,” Omewa posted on X.
Omewa opened the scoring just three minutes into the second half. She connected with a cross from Shukurat Oladipo and headed Nigeria into the lead.
Seven minutes later, she scored again. Omewa showed her strength and skill as she pushed through the Senegal defense to find the net for her second goal of the night.
Her strong performance was impressive, especially since coach Justine Madugu gave her a starting spot. He made several changes to the team for this second friendly.
Asisat Oshoala, who came on as a substitute, added a third goal in the 66th minute. This goal secured a solid win for the Super Falcons. They ended the two-match series with a 5-1 aggregate score.
This victory was another positive sign for coach Madugu’s team. They are preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month. Nigeria aims to win their 11th continental title.
The 2026 WAFCON will start on July 25 and run until August 16 in Morocco. The Falcons are in Group C with Egypt, Zambia, and first-timers Malawi. Senegal will compete in Group A against hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.
