Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is back in training. He returned to group practice on Sunday after being sick earlier this week. Alvarez missed Saturday’s 3-1 La Liga win over Sevilla due to his illness.
With just two days left before the transfer window closes at midnight on Tuesday, Alvarez is back with the team. Barcelona is still trying to sign him.
Atletico Madrid has made it clear they will not negotiate Alvarez’s move to Barcelona. Director of football Mateu Alemany repeated this firm position on Saturday.
“The club has been very clear and very firm,” Alemany told Movistar. “The plan is very clear. (Alvarez) had a few days when he wasn’t feeling well. He already trained (by himself on Friday), and we hope he’ll reintegrate with us quickly and be available, I hope, for the next league match.”
Chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin said on Thursday that Atletico would “not negotiate with Barcelona under any circumstances.” The club’s board supports this decision.
Reports from Spain say a move to England might be possible. But this option does not seem to attract Alvarez. He had mentioned earlier this summer that he wants to leave Atletico.
Last weekend, Alvarez faced jeers from his own fans when he came on as a substitute against Villarreal. After the match, he walked off down the tunnel alone while his teammates applauded the fans.
